Tooth preservation through surgical procedures

If a tooth causes discomfort despite root canal treatment or if the surrounding bone is inflamed, surgical procedures are used to preserve the tooth:

Root amputation: Removal of a single tooth root (especially in maxillary molars)
Hemisection: Sectioning and removal of a root portion in lower molars

These procedures usually follow a root canal treatment and aim to preserve the healthy remaining tooth structure while stopping the inflammation.
